The Domino Effect

Posted by Ralph Giovenco on Thu, Mar 14, 2013

You've probably done this yourself. Set up a line of dominos - knock one over and they all follow. There are TONS of crazy domino videos on YouTube and elsewhere. In life, the domino effect is a chain reaction that occurs when one change causes a similar change nearby.

Two weeks ago, I received an email from an IT hiring manager at a Houston company. They needed PC Technicians to start in ONE WEEK! I sent a MyComputerCareer graduate on an interview the next day, Tuesday. He came to us unemployed and was looking for a way into a computer career. On Thursday, he was hired! Last Monday he started!!! This graduate was so well qualified for the position, and prepared for the interview, the company decided to hire THREE MORE MyComputerCareer students!

MyComputerCareer is more than getting you prepared for a computer certification. We get you prepared for a computer CAREER. It's IT skills, applied knowledge, interview know-how, and the success our graduates have demonstrated in the field. How would you like to be the next domino to fall into a computer career? Take our FREE Career Evaluation and see if this is something for you. It's the first step to a better life.

Back To The Well For More MyComputerCareer Talent!

Posted by Ralph Giovenco on Mon, Apr 30, 2012

Well our software company neighbors upstairs are at it again. After receiving his resume, interviewing and making an offer to our student, all in the same day, the hiring manager was on our campus again. He needed our help!!

This time he needed someone for database monitoring. We met for a while and I gave him three candidates that I thought would be a fit.  The next day, one of the students came on campus. He was all dressed up. I had never seen him look so dapper! He had just left the interview and had been offered the job! $30K and he started the very next day!!! This student doesn't show much emotion but he couldn't believe it happened so quickly. He immediately went into the classroom to begin to tell his story.

Houston CSDNot long after that the hiring manager was on campus to tell me how great our students were doing. I did ask about the other candidates I had given him and he told me that those that responded first and could interview first were given first consideration. Once he found the right person there was no need to look any further. You snooze, you lose.

That's a great lesson on how hard we have to work. If we don't get requirements from hiring managers - and our students' resumes out to hiring managers, they won't get the IT jobs they deserve.

Hard Work and Passion land Adrian Vincent a new IT Career

Posted by Bill Sallada on Mon, Aug 15, 2011

This update comes to us from Claude Green, the Career Services Director at the Houston MyComputerCareer Campus.  Claude wanted to highlight Adrian Vincent this week because Adrian applied for a position along with other candidates who were more experienced, but he landed the job because he impressed the employer with his hard work and passion for doing the job right.

"This week I wanted to highlight Adrian Vincent.  Adrian was working on a project with Capital One that ended last Friday.  He had been there for a few months supporting a migration.  He called me to tell me the project was ending and he needed to find additional employment quickly.  I sent his resume over to C3 Solutions and Adrian was called in for an aptitude test and then called back two days later for an in-person interview.  The hiring manager told Adrian that he had interviewed candidates with twice as much experience but half the passion.  Adrian convinced the hiring manager to give him a shot.  Adrian told him if after 30 days he couldn’t cut it then they would part ways.  Adrian started work the very next day.  At the end of the day the hiring manager gave Adrian a key to the building and said I liked everything I saw from you today and you asked all the right questions .…so welcome aboard!!!"

Prior to coming to, Adrian had worked in construction for 20 years.  He had aspirations to get into the IT industry, and we were able to help him realize meet those goals at  Adrian is also an aspiring golfer.  Sadly, we were unable to help him with that dream, but at least we helped him get started in the IT industry.
